Your comments about this record:

As you will know from above, there has been a very reasonably priced release containing both the american flyer albums on cd by collectors choice label in US. American flyer are from a time before the early 80's westcoast and their sound is a bit more acoustic country w/strings (not so much synths/drum machines/ or at least drum machine sounding drums should I say). Many people who I talk to much prefer their first album and I understand why, but I believe, while feeling a little shorter (maybe spirit of a woman is just a little shorter) the second is with several very strong songs and I certainly like it just as much if not more in a different way. Spirit has a slightly more modern sound (nearer the 80's) and the guitars are often more 'up front' melodic. There is a nice kind of not distorted but slightly over-drive touch to the guitar sometimes that reminds of big bands like r.e.m., early 80's country, even alt rock genre etc (I'm sure it was influential) whereas the first LP stays very acoustic sounding and reminds more of good 70's country rock/folk and the beatles for me. Here on spirit of a woman you have a great song 'the good years' and 'dear carmen' which has lovely backing harmonies and emotional feeling. I really like this album. I would say get the two lp's album cd (try ebay as I got mine there sealed for great price and as of writing its still availible there). I also own the lp version of the first and it does sound a considerable bit better but then again this is weighed out in the balance cause the music is very acoustic, often playing a little on silence, so you will hear noise/crackles with lp, especially if not a new copy. Overall the cds absolutely excellent sounding especially considering the date. Also overall both releases 4 stars and a lovely two LP's on 1 cd set for the collection

flyer, very good song!!!
