...and yet another gem from Sweden. Seems this year will be a very promising one for us friends of good music. Is westcoast sound old and faded or could it be something for the 21st century? Check it out! You won't be disappointed. Definite must buy for us coasters!
This is one of the best releases in a long time !! I love this record. Great voice and melodies.... A must buy.... !!!
It was not 2008 but Summer of 2003 when I found Swedish unpolished gem, Daniel Andersson. Daniel released 5 traccks CD entitled "Strange Ways" with Peter Starefeldt as "dp". Those guys started the 2-year education "studio musician program" after finishing high school. In 2002, Peter and Daniel decided to form a band to record those materials on the CD "Strange Ways" which was self-released. The music was well-arranged with a slight flavour of contemporary jazz. In 2003 he got the opportunity to study in Los Angeles at Music Institute, where he met and recorded with heroes Jason Scheff (Chicago) and Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets). Being in L.A. was a tremendous experience and he got the chance to meet with a lot of great players and producers, including the Airplay duo Jay Graydon and David Foster. Back in Sweden he decided to write and record his own songs in the same style as he grew up listening to.As far as I know, Daniel spent more than 2 years to finish his solo debut album because he was saying "I have recorded a solo project that i'm finishing up and it will be out soon..." in October 2005. Comparing with DP project, Daniel's solo seems to be much more mainstream pop rock, but still keeps Westcoast/AOR feeling here and there.
Here’s a young guitarist and singer from the north of Sweden that will set your westcoast heart on fire. According to the record label Daniel is new to the westcoast audience but he was actually involved in the great 2003 release “Strange Ways” as one half of the duo DP. Since then he has studied music in Los Angeles where he met and played with Jason Scheff (Chicago) and Jimmy Haslip (Yellowjackets). The album contains fresh new westcoast music, representing the future of the genre but with the same class as any of the great names in the field. The opening track “Glamorous Hollywood” really sets the mood and when the keyboard solo towards the middle of the song starts I find myself already falling in love with the album. Great playing and fantastic songwriting is the simplest and best way to describe this future classic and I know that this CD will put a smile on westcoast fans all over the world for a long time.
