Your comments about this record:

Jackson Browne has a penchant for bringing out the best in lyrics and musicianship. "Hold Out" is among his best work, with standout songs "Boulevard" and "Call It A Loan". You will be tapping the steering wheel of your car to both tunes. Insightful words and cohesive rhythm from a songwriting legend.

This is as good as it can ever get!!! Among Jackson Browne's albums (and all of them are great in their own special way), his 1980-smash (and ONLY chart-topping album b.t.w.) "Hold Out" is the most "Westcoasty" collection of songs he has ever recorded. Plus: Apart from the crystal clear arrangements and produtcion, Jackson Browne's lyrics are among the best lyrics ever written by any popular musical artist. Just start with "Disco Apocalypse" and learn about "sisters walking two by two...their dresses and their shoes are new, but their hearts are weary thru and thru...". There is NO weak song on this album (my favorites, however, being "Hold Out", "Of Missing Persons" and "Call It A Loan"). Thank you, Jackson, for this MASTERPIECE!!! ***** (and if it wasn't for the 5-star-scale, I would add a sixth one here!)

The "Hold Out" album doesn't use to be "real reviewers"(?) favourite, but is absolutely one of my favourite albums. With very great songs, arrangementsand words as well this one goes straight to Your heart! An album made after the great loss of his wife as well as after his very close friend - the Little Feat vocalist Lowell George's death. Listen to the great songs "Call It A Loan" or "Of Missing Person", or to his declaration of love in "Hold On Hold Out" (especially in the end of the following lines were he's trying to expalin his love and sounds very nervous in his voice to "spit it out": You're a hold out Well I'm a hold out too But it took me all this time to figure out Something you already knew Will love be true? Can it pull you through? How long? How strong? Some things depend on you See-- I always figured I was going to meet somebody here and I don't know why Why should love come down and suddenly just sweep me away I want to fly But there are so many things in my way Anyway... I guess you wouldn't know unless I told you But... I love you Well just look at yourself-- What else would I do? Extra plus for the steel guitar playing by the incredible David Lindley!
