In the late 1970s and early 1980s, things seemed to be so nice and simple in the realm of AOR/Westcaost. No matter if Toto, Chicago, Foster, Graydon etc: they all had this very distinctive Westcoast sound. The 1990s add a little more complexity to the game. A broad variety of different styles and sounds can be found on AOR artists' albums nowaydays. But if there is ONE guy who has faithfully restored a high quality unmistakable Westcoast sound, it is Bill Champlin and "He started to sing" has the same ingredients that used to make his earlier albums special. Just listen to "Sex Thang", "Love Comes And Goes" and "Party Time In D.C." and you're addicted. No kidding!!! A superior album!!! ****1/2
Another awesome display of vocal pyrotechnics from one of the sons of Westcoast!! NO PUN INTENDED! Just listen to the start of "Party Time in DC" and you will know what i mean. It is a very sad occasion that these type of releases werent pushed to a wider audience. When harmony vocals are required, people think of two words "BILL CHAMPLIN".
