Your comments about this record:

Eric Carmen's "Change of Heart" unfortunately has been considered the equivalent of the black sheep of the family or the bad kid that gets picked on in the family of albums and I always felt that past reviews of this album were un-fair! Because Eric was so good at power-pop and rock with the Raspberries people seemed to have a hard time letting Eric do his solo thing but isn't that what doing a solo project means is something that just might be stylistically differant from one's former musical shadow! The thing is there's still plenty of those famous Carmen hooks and melodies on this album. There's a bit of disco flavor here as well and many critics have come down on him for that. Of course wasn't other rockers experimenting with disco in 1978 as well: Rod Stewart,Rolling Stones,Bee Gees and even Chicago. So why not Eric, too? "Change of Heart" is a real infectious piece of Pop-Rock/Disco with bouncy keyboards, slick guitar and a great drums courtesy of Michael Botts of Bread who did a fantastic job! Other recommended songs include "End of the World" with a great sing-along chorus and nice Carmen falsettos. "SomeDay" is real Beach Boys sounding with help from Bruce Johnston and it is a fun song. "Heaven Can Wait" is another Carmen classic right up there with "All By Myself" it's too bad they ended up not using it in the Warren Beatty film. It's an excellent melancholy ballad that only Mr.Carmen could write. His songs are sad but not syrpy. You can really hear the pain in it. Not one to wallow in self-pity Carmen's "Hey Deanie" rocks and it's bouncy. I personally feel Shaun Cassidy's had a little more production punch but then again if not for Carmen's composition there would be no Cassidy hit version that would exist so credit must be due Eric and Shaun did point this out to national t.v. when he appeared on "American Bandstand" in 1977 and practically did a Eric Carmen tribute show by performing both "Hey Deanie" and "That's Rock 'N' Roll!" This is definetly worth checking out and another great examle of West Coast/L.A. Pop with help from guitarist Danny Kortchmar,Jeff Porcaro, Jai Winding,Joe Chemay,Nigel Olsen, and David Wintour!! Worth Buying as the songs, the feel of the music and the musicianship shine thr!!
