Your comments about this record:

This to me is one of the very best Aor records of all I have heard. It is definately a masterpiece and extremely talented piece of album art. The rhythm is mind blowing even by AOR standards and the synths are lovely emotional, the waters ladies are lovely, joe sounds like the nicest guy ever listening to this. His lyrics are all love +from beautifully sad to incredibly magical and happy. The album is not a calculated AOR crap record to me (not that many vintage ones are that I have heard). It is an AOR record, but also comes from joe's own influences I feel and he dosen't let the AOR around him get in the way of what he wants to do. Though obviously he is deliberately crafting an AOR album he is making a very original record too. It is one of my top 10 80's lp’s because it is so uniquely intelligent in a rare way. After many months the journey is eventually like a medatation experience, even if you are not that kind of person. This is a record that I will never forget and is also never finished (album name very relevant +well chosen). Every song is good. Proud sounds great and the haunting fog horn like noises heard suddenly after dozens of listens with the female backing vocals (at the break) can tear me apart nearly every time. I love the progression. That is what this album’s like though, it is always changing like someone is swapping your lp with a remixed one at frequent intervals, serious. Once in a life is a VERY beautiful song -great snthesisers +bass after lyric that I believe says 'the song in it's brightest light can only be someone dying'. It is great in the lyrical department. 'You saw me coming' is another beautiful song that begins side two where the females kind of ‘communicate’ with joe and it is very emotional yet humerous and nice but even before this it is kind of like a celebration of women from Joe for me. He dosen't hog the show. What you get because of this is some amazing input from the females. Joe is not afraid to let them steal the show and they do. I prefer the green us art (as seen) because although it has many sounds of paradise, really it feels like its a magical tour through the countryside for me. Song 3 on side 2 'holy thunder' reminds me of camping in rainy countryside with my mother as a child +this song, although initially you are not sure of, becomes very fine later in the experience. Also the next (feat david batteau I believe or maybe just written somewhat by him?) 'One needs another' is great. It has a wonderful early solo. While of course it was not him alone, sometimes I just want to hunt joe down +thank him for this beautiful record cause I think it demonstrates an unusual staggering effort to document something always vunerable in our brains that is very tricky to execute for any artist. I don’t think there is another record I have heard that can ‘release’ itself upon you so slowly +not creepily, but almost ‘supernaturally’ and I account that to this ‘effort’. Thanks. I love this alum . It's done a lot for me.

Truly one of the greatest. The songs are playful, funky and melodic. The vocalist does a tremendous job as you can hear of the examples out on this page.

Joe chemay's Riper the Finer album is absolutely brilliant. Makes mince meat of a lot of great westcoast releases if you ask me. To Roberto: It is currently still in print to buy at www.Amazon.com (though quite expensive as it is an import Japan only cd). However, watch ebay. Right now for instance (at the time of writing) it is for sale 'buy it now' from a seller I often trade with called crispmovies/northkeymovies at a more reasonable price (seller feedback in not an excellent rating, but all I can say is I've always personally had great service when buying westcoast cds from him/her..). It seems to come on ebay now and again from different sellers anyway, selling for about 20-25 us dollars. Otherwise (if you can't find it on ebay) Amazon might be the best way to get it before it goes out of print providing you have 35dollars to part with. I make a point of not paying more than 25 for any cd... but I must say, if there was one cd for where I'd break that rule... it would be THIS. What a masterpiece. Joe has a great emotional voice and sings right from his heart and the music here, wow. And he has a new album out 2007! I cannot wait to find myself a copy. the samples sound very good. Cheers

Hi, I've been searchin' for PROUD, but any results, if you know how can get for this CD album, please tell me. Thanks

proud! what a song, unique on this genre

Joe Chemay is one of well-known bass player / background singer for his versatile recording session works with big names including Elton John, Beach Boys and Pink Floyd (for the famous album "The Wall") in late 70's and early 80's. More recently, we can still find his name on many albums such as Shania Twain's smash hit album "Come On Over" (1999) and so on. Alongside busy studio session works, Joe formed his own band and recorded their own album in 1980. As the Joe Chemay Band, they got a deal with Unicorn Records, minor label distributed by MCA. Thus "The Ripper The Finer" was released early 1981 in the States, from which 1st single "Proud" was running up the pop chart and ranked #68 at the highest in March 1981.
