Louise Goffin will always be known as the daughter of Carole King and Gerry Goffin. This has worked as both a positive and negative factor. The negative is that her songwriting and singing will always be compared to her parents. The positive is that she's part of an amazingly talented family and has continued to carry her parents rich music legacy! "This is the Place" was Goffin's third album. It is definitely an album with that slick, synthesized sound that was popular at the time. But Goffin's catchy, sometimes abstract music and lyrics create a uniqueness that stands the test of time. She, like her parents, has the great gift of crafting well constructed pop songs with memorable melodic hooks and sublte chord changes. The best songs on this album (Bridge of Sighs, Send a Message, Ghosts on the High Street) are beautifully written and its a shame these songs, as well as the entire album, wasn't the hit it should have been. There a few songs that seem dated (Deep Kiss, All It Takes), but overall this album, recorded primarily in England, is well worth re-discovering.
I like this. It's all very thin distant sounding 80's with strong reverb but with the help of the sometimes excellent vocals and lyrics it all has that nice effect of taking your mind to another place. The songs create a nice sense of imagery. Very 80's music, but not all that cheesy overall. The song 'Deep Kiss' was performed in the late 90's by the great singer Kimberly Frank on her second album (and probably several other artists- who knows). I like this cd on a sunny day. It takes me to another place. This is obviously the place she was talking about
