Sure, some songs might be a bit strange, but I would buy this record anytime, just as long as Graydons "The Ending"-solo is included. :) Sweet!
Some very good songs here, and some very strange. I can't seem to get a grip on this album, even though the sound is inpeccable.
Steve Kipner -Knock The Walls Down 1979 Produced by Jay Graydon. This was the first record Jay Graydon produced and somehow you can hear it. For instance why engage a great horn ensemble as Jerry Hey’s only to let the play two brass “hits” on one tune and you could say that Graydon’s guitar licks on the title track aren’t top notch. Beside this there really isn’t anything to complain about on this record, the muscians are great with David Foster on keyboard, the TOTO guys are flawless and Bill Champlin, Bobby Kimball and Tom Kelly are great at their background vocals. Graydon himself plays his great melodically guitar licks and his wonderful synthezisers. For myself this record took a very long time to really appreciate, I don’t really know why but now I can really understand this record and it’s strenghts. Steve Kipner’s vocals are quite ok and he makes the most of his own clever and amusing lyrics. The tracks "Guilty" and "Love Is It's Own Reward" are westcoast masterpieces that blows every listener completely away! recommended: Jordan -Blue Dessert, Alan Sorrenti –s/t (1981) 4+/5
