I was a bit skeptical when I first listened to this CD - the first disc of new music from the band in 10 years. I admit part of my skepticism was because of the many lineup changes since the last LRB release "Get Lucky" in 1990. I was willing to give it a chance, though, because I had always enjoyed the songs Wayne Nelson sang on their albums (little known fact: Wayne is the lead singer on half of the songs from their 1986 album "No Reins"). So it was a pleasant surprise to hear the the classic LRB harmonies are intact, and that the band can still come up with a full CD of catchy, enjoyable pop and rock tunes. My personal favorites are "Magazine Girl", "Where We Started From", and the two sung by guitarist Greg Hind, "This Place" and "I Think I Left My Heart with You". The latter tune has a touch of Beatles in the chords and melody, it stays in your head forever. Drummer Kevin Murphy is also a fine singer, really this is the most well rounded lineup of LRB I have heard yet, and they're even better live. So - give it a chance!
One of mine favoured in the Westcoastgenre. For now nearly 30 years this tape accompanies me. countless albums were published. Here a very good newer publication with changed Line up. Wayne Nelson (u.a LA.Cowboys) does a top job. Especially the first four pieces remind of former times. To recommend very much.
The album arrived today and Iīm just listening to it. If youīre into this music, itīs definitely a good buy! Great vocals (as always in the last decades), and whatīs really different to a lot of other bands and music styles and special for LRB: It never sounds old or out of time! Just like "The Night Owls" - though with a (for me) totally new and great arrangement on this CD. "One Night In Mississippi" offers great live performance with good sound quality.
Thatīs exactly the stuff Iīve been listening to the last decades ;-) Got to have this album - does anybody out there have an idea where to get it? Thanks!
Highlights on the Studio record are Who Made the Moon (Wayne Nelson's tribute to his daughter), American Way and the acoustic, jazzy re-recording of The Night Owl.
