Los Angeles Native music creator, Greg Mathieson was born on February 25, 1950. Greg started his professional musician's career in early 70's. He toured with Helen Reddy from 1974 to 1976 around the world and from 1976-1978 traveled with Olivia Newton-John. Around then, Greg started his own fusion band and started playing at the Baked Potato. In 1978 Greg made a commitment to stop traveling and become a part of the vibrant L.A. studio scene. Not only did he become one of the first call keyboard players but also become one of the top arrangers. It was 1981 when Greg made his first solo album, yes the legendary live album, "The Baked Potato Super Live!" with Steve Lukather, Jeff Porcaro and Robert "Pop's" Popwell. Greg's next solo effort was a studio album "For My Friends" on Head First Records featuring Carlos Vega, Michael Landau, Abraham Laboriel and Luis Conte. In 2001, Greg released an album with Abe Laboriel "Laboriel Mathieson" and another live album "Live At The Baked Potato 2000" under the name of Mathieson, Laboriel, Landau & Colaiuta followed. This Studio project CD called "West Coast Groove"! The 10 tracks CD includes 8 instrumental and 2 vocal tunes. Yes, Bill Champlin sings both tracks: "Foreign Fire" / "Love Will Take You". Besides those, you will enjoy the new instrumental version of the Champlin/Mathieson tune "Party Time In DC".
The vocal tracks (4 and 5) kicks, as does the opening track. Otherwise I don't find this particularly exiting. Worth every penny, though, to hear Champlin pour it out in "Love Will Take You"
