This is Jay Gruska and Maxus' first and only album - sorry for that! This music really burns and is a got-to-have for westcoast- and AOR lovers!
I´m desperately looking for the Maxus Album. LP or CD. Offers are welcome. No secret - a very hard to find album. Although a CD was released.
One of the best albums ever with extremly strong songs, fantastic arrangements and wonderful playing. "Keep A Light On" and "Nobody's Bussiness" are two exeptional, world-class masterpieces.
The first thing I heard from this album was Landau´s guitar solo on "They Danced".I had to sit down to catch my breath.Nine songs, all top quality.Great production by Omartian.Back to the first impression. It was 1983 and I went to my local record dealer to buy the album. He looked at me like I was an alien-what was the group name again...Maxus...never heard of them. The hunt continued.I went through all the big record stores in Stockholm ,and they all laughed at me. Finally after a couple of months I found one in a second hand store. I guess all the trouble I went through for this album made me love it even more. One year later I found 20 still sealed cut out albums of Maxus for 50 cent each.Need I tell You that I bought them all...just for the fun ! This is a great album
GRUSKA,BUCHANAN,LANDAU,PERRY,LEONARD. What happens if these guys come together ??? - MAXUS !!! With a Million bugs Production by Michael Omartian and a little Vocal help from Bill Champlin and Tommy Funderburk, this is how a WC/AOR album has to sound at this time. Still now, more than 25 Years later it sounds as great as it did then. This one is near to Perfection, and has it´s place in my All Time Top Ten. Every song is a real Masterpiece, get a Taste right here !!!
One of the best CD's from the WC genre, intelligent Songwriting perfectly moved from the best musicians (what occupation). Produced by Michael Omartian, which work 26 years ago laxly the today's standard reaches. If you see the CD somewhere, buy
Video of MAXUS Songs.....Just made my day...HAVEN´T SEEN THIS VIDEO IN ALMOST 26 YEARS...THANK YOU!!! Just to let you know I once wrote to Jay Gruska, very nice person, never thought he would write back. He said that there was a project of getting all of the available Maxus videos into DVD (since they were on VHS), and that maybe we should be on the watch to see how the project goes. If they appeared on DVD it would be great.
I need to buy this CD, you can say to me where to buy it
Can´t say how much I love this album!! It doesn´t get much better than this! Found my copy (LP) like 20 years ago on a "record-convention" (don´t know if it´s the right expression... ...hope you know what I mean...). Didn´t know what to expect other than Landau´s guitar (one of my favourite guitarists and a huge influence!), but I was totally blown away!! And as a little extra my copy has got a stamp that says "Loaned for promotion only - Sale is unlawful!"... ;-)
wow, this one goes for ridiculous amounts of money. I just got an old sealed LP for a few dollars but I must say I'd kind of like it in digital at this stage for my AOR compilations cause it is pretty great. I heard someone say in an amazion review that this might fall on dead ears if not a westcoast fan and i think that is somewhat true with a few of the songs (well at least till you gave someone the cd and they had a good chance to get into it anyway). It's produced by michael omartian (I love all the productions I have from him and also the albums) so you have a great sound of early 80's omartian and the music is just top class all round. Some Great songs. It's hard to pick favorites cause they are all great really (even if don't try to stop me now goes on too long and gets really annoying) but if i have to Pick 5 I will say They Danced/The Higher you Rise/Part of You/ What You Give and Where were You. Very good record. Hopefully a re-issue will come soon as it's almost been ten years since the original cd release and I have noticed, not always, but often, the japanese labels follow a trend of re re-issuing about ten years after the original one. Cheers
A great album from start to finish. The Higher You Rise, Nobody's Business and Keep a Light On are excellent tracks that you can listen to over and over again. This album is a bit pricey but I'd say it's worth every cent. Highly recommended!
