This is a bit like reviewing the best Bentley around. One of the best recordings in this genre obviously. If you miss this in this collection something is clearly missing in your life!
Excellent cd from the hugely underated ERIC TAGG. Westcoast with strong Jazz overtones, listen to MARIANNE. Track 1 sounds like it could have been written for the 1st TOTO cd. Tracks like Promises Promises and the Title track are superb. If you are a fan of well produced cool music then you could do worse than treat yourself to this Gem!
It's probably the best singer and one of the best album around! Incredible!
Beautiful voice makes beautiful album! Great work from Tagg and Ritenour. I'm glad I bought it!!
This is a classic. Tagg & Champlin, it doesn't get any better than that.
Eric Tagg was fabulous studio keyboardist in the 70's and 80's, when in 1981 he hit it big, really big. The song "Is It You" (written by Bill Champlin, Eric Tagg, and Lee Ritenour) was Lee Ritenour's only pop song, and was a minor pop hit, an amazing feat for a jazz guitarist. The song featured, Eric Tagg's breathy vocals, similar to Kenny Loggins, a smooth, subtle sound, and some nifty percusion hooks. In this outing, Eric Tagg replicates those same sounds and brings together some superb musicians such as Lee Ritenour, Don Grusin, David Foster, Greg Mathison, Abraham Laboriel, Tom Scott, and Chuck Finley, not to mention Bill Champlin on backing vocals. The CD is excellent, well produced (by Lee Ritenour) and epidomizes the smooth jazz adult contemporary sound of Eric Tagg. All songs were written by Eric Tagg, and the CD is an even mixture of rhythmic grooves and ballads, with the classic percussion hooks Tagg is known for. The only fault of the CD is that it might be a tad over-produced and understated, with the musicianship buried in the mix, as no one steps out and realy solos. If you liked "Is It You?" from the "Rit" CD, you will love this CD.
