This is without a doubt TOTO's best work ever and probably one of the best albums ever released by any artist. This is simply as close to perfect as it gets! All tracks are extremely well written, arranged and performed. Only weak song is maybe "Stay Away". Jeff Porcaro's unmistakable groove is all over this album and Joseph Williams proves more than ever his incredible talents as a singer. Highlights are "Pamela", "Stop Loving You", "Anna", "Mushanga" and "These Chains". The sound of the album is unique - it's a big, pompous, groovy 80's pop/rock sound. This album is a true masterpiece and every music lover ought to have a copy of this at home!
This is probably my favorite AOR/Westcoast album of all time. Toto IS the leader of the pack!!! The music, the lyrics and, of course, the arrangements are great and show a broad variety of styles. Although there is a lot of 80s feel to the production, "The Seventh One" still has a somewhat timeless touch and sounds as fresh today as it did back in 1988. My personal favs on this masterpiece are "Pamela", "Stop Loving You" and "These Chains". GREAT!!! *****
Toto - Seventh One!!! what more can i say? The songs Pamela, Stop Loving you and These Chains at the same record = The record have to be the best ever. Great Sound all over the Cd and the only weak song is Stay away. Jeff is truley missed. the groove at These Chains is amazing!
This is probably the best AOR album and one of the best CD's ever released! ALL of these songs are awesome and I've loved this album ever since it came out in 1988. Lead singer Joseph Williams leaves an outstanding vocal performance while Steve Lukather takes care of the best ballads. Pamela which is the first song on the album was a minor hit in the US and a big one in Europe. You Got Me is great feel good up tempo AOR. Anna is one of the best Westcoast AOR ballads ever. Stop Loving You has a huge chorus with backgrounc vocals of Jon Anderson from Yes and was also a big hit in Europe. Mushanga being an awesome mid to uptempo song with great drums by the late Jeff Porcaro having a Spanish/Flamenco guitar on it. Stay Away rocks harder with an awesome combination of Joseph Williams on vocal and Steve Lukather on guitar and has Linda Ronstadt and Patti Austin on background vocals. Straight For The Heart is another favorite uptempo AOR song with a lot of keys and synths. Only The Children has got to be the perfect combination of guitar and synth with very powerful vocals. A Thousand Years is a perfect ballad from Joseph Williams with a Steel Blues solo. These Chains is another great ballad from Steve Lukather and Home Of The Brave is the awesome final song of the album that begins with a great David Paich vocal while all of the sudden Joseph Williams kicks in with the best vocal ever. The Seventh One is a bonus track which is yet another great vocal performance by Joseph Williams. Overall the best of the best!
