Although many people seem to simply ignore "Tambu" for sone strange reason, this album is a (more recent) jewel of the TOTO-catalogue. Shrunk to a quartet, TOTO (for the first time with Simon Phillips on drums) had to pick up the pieces after Jeff Porcaro's sudden death in 1992. The result, in my opinion, is a well balanced mixture of AOR/Westcoast "mainstream" with a funky edge to it at times. Sounding much more "positive" than on their predecessor "Kingdom Of Desire", "Tambu" features a nice collection of songs - among which "I Will Remember", "The Turning Point", "The Road Goes On" and "If You Belong To Me" are particularly mentionable. For me (and especially from a "Westcoast point of view") "Tambu" is much more enjoyable than "Kingdom Of Desire" or its lengthy 1999 sucessor "Mindfields". Great work, guys!!! ****1/2
I do not agree with John opinion, even if "tambu" is a great piece of music (there are jewels like "the road goes on" and "I will remember") it's far from "kingdom of desire" and the drumming is much more "mecanic" compared to Porcaro "smooth" drumming.
